(Yangon, 13th May 2019) MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, held a tube well handover ceremony at Ywar Pale Village, Nyaung-Oo district, Mandalay Region on 8th of May, as part of its Myanmar in Our Heart initiative. The operator is organizing its ongoing Clean and Sustainable Water Program to provide hygienic water supplies, by drilling tube wells and creating reservoir ponds for local communities nationwide that live poor access to this life-giving water resources.
This movement in Mandalay Region can support Ywar Pale Village’s over 1,000 residents by helping their everyday life more convenience, having previously been forced to collect water from distance and possible unclean sources, as well as improve public health outcomes, both of which are the part of the national carrier’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
This Ywarpale contribution is part of the 2019 actions, through the construction of new clean water sources for local communities in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development, as well as nongovernmental organization (NGO) partners, and local communities.

In these water-depressed areas, safe and reliable access to this vital resource is a daily concern. The heartbeats of MPT are always together with people of Myanmar and we care deeply about the well-being of all citizens, and therefore we want to thank once again be providing yet another community with the self-sustaining operation of a tube well here today,”. U Kan Chon, village administrative officer of Ywar Pale village was visibly moved as he shared his thoughts over the newly-minted tube well: “We have over 1,000 people staying in our village and mostly are in farming business. It was a big struggle to get clean water for daily lives and operations. The action that we accomplished now comes from the kindest supports of Government Officers, MPT people from various levels and, it has been a greatest moment for all of us. We are extremely glad since we can solve the water resource problem that challenged us for many years and now we are able to face the other phases of development for our village. Also, achieve better living standard together with the clean water that this well provided”.
MPT has accomplished 30 units of tube wells and reservoir ponds since last 2 years under the Clean and Sustainable Water Program in dry and water shortage areas of Myanmar including Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway Bago (west), Ayeyarwaddy, Yangon, Mon and Kayin and over 47,000 residents are able to get the benefits of these wells.
MPT has a wide range of CSR activities under its three main pillars of education, healthcare and business incubation by focusing on younger generations as they are the driver to Move Myanmar Forward. MPT has identified that access to water is ongoing problem in many parts of the country especially during the dry season and sources of water is also rare, which is why MPT has initiated this program by collaborating with the experts in their respective areas so that the local communities can have the most benefit out of it.
